CUEVAS Y CÍA ATTENDS THE CHESTNUT FORUM IN RIÓS
Rocío Cid, manager of Cuevas y Cía, and Tania Blanco, quality manager, attended a conference focusing on the challenges and new areas of research in the chestnut sector in Galicia.
Rocío and Tania attended the Chestnut Forum, held at the Riós Multipurpose Building in Ourense. The event was organised as part of the collaboration agreement between the Regional Ministry of Rural Affairs and Inorde Turismo, a body attached to the Provincial Council of Ourense.
During the event, some of the main challenges and opportunities facing chestnut trees and chestnuts in Galicia were analysed. Topics discussed included the current situation regarding the chestnut gall wasp, the protection of chestnut groves against climatic and biological threats, the domestication of the chestnut tree and its evolution, the conservation of unique specimens, the marketing of its timber, and the mechanisation of harvesting.
The event also focused on research, innovation and the sustainable management of a resource that has been essential for generations in many rural areas and which today retains enormous potential from an agri-food, forestry and economic perspective.
For us, attending this type of event is an opportunity to continue learning, share knowledge with other professionals in the sector and keep abreast of developments concerning a product deeply linked to our history: the chestnut.
